Chiropractic care is a highly effective, drug-free therapy used my millions of people to effectively control pain and care for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions.
According to a report published by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research in 1997, found chiropractic to be one of the most effective methods for treatment of back pain. The report found surgery and bed rest to be ineffective for treating back pain. Another study indicated that patients receiving medical treatment for back pain take four times longer to return to normal activity.
Axis Chiropractic Center uses chiropractic as one method of treatment in a holistic approach to helping your body heal itself with its natural healing power. Your condition may benefit for other types of treatment such as message therapy, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine and diet and nutrition counseling.
Chiropractic treatment is used for a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions, including:
Axis Chiropratic Center has adopted the Gonstead method of chiropractic care. The Gonstead approach to chiropractic begins with a basic concept of physics. Just as a strong building needs a solid foundation, a strong body needs one, too. The foundation of the body’s musculoskeletal system is the pelvic girdle. When this structure that includes the hipbones and lower bones of the back is level, there will be maximum balance and stability in the spinal column. Stability of the spinal column reduces pain and improves the transmission of nerve impulses through the body. Impeded nerve transmission can affect the health of the parts of the body connected to the particular nerve.
When the pelvic girdle and vertebrae are misaligned, they can cause pressure on the discs that separate the vertebrae. Vertebrae can become misaligned from a single accident or from cumulative effects of several episodes. Sometimes, the body is able to cope with these misalignments with its own natural healing power. If the misalignment is too great, the body may need help to heal itself. This is when chiropractic care is indicated.
When vertebrae are misaligned, the discs between the vertebrae, which are spongy pads surrounded by fibers of cartilage, may swell and protrude, or even become fragmented. Chiropractors call this condition a subluxation. Injured discs are commonly referred to as being slipped, herniated or ruptured.
A subluxation of the vertebrae may result in the pinching or compressing of the nerves that run through that particular area. All of the nerves of the body branch off of the spinal column, so the spine affects the health of the entire body. When the nerves are compressed by a subluxation, the nerve impulses may be impeded to the section of the body controlled by these nerves. This may result in pain and reduced health of the body section.
After a complete physical analysis to learn about your condition, your chiropractor will adjust the subluxated areas of your spine by using several methods to manipulate them and move them back into alignment.
Your chiropractor will first conduct a thorough analysis to learn about your medical history, your lifestyle, your immediate physical concerns, and what may have contributed to your present condition. Your chiropractor may take X-rays to see if your vertebrae are misaligned, and may feel your spine to detect any subluxations of the vertebrae. Once a diagnosis has been made, your chiropractor will recommend a course of treatment, which may include chiropractic adjustment and other treatments.
To adjust your spine, your chiropractor will have you lay on an exam table in certain positions and use had pressure and leverage to move your body and spine to manipulate the spine into proper alignment. There are also several types of devices that may be used to manipulate your spine.
Your team at Axis Chiropractic Center will custom-tailor a treatment plan for you that may include more than one type of natural therapy, depending on what your specific condition indicates. All of these methods of natural treatment share a goal of helping you unlock your body’s natural healing power so you can take control of your health and wellness.
Your team here includes specialists in several types of therapy, which may be included in your treatment plan. Our specialists are highly trained and certified in chiropractic care, massage therapy, acupuncture, naturopathic medicine, diet and nutrition counseling, X-rays and orthotics.
